About Me

My name is Leila.  I'm a silly happy go lucky down to earth silly goof ball.  Lover of all things beauty! Co-corporate job by day, blogger by night.

 ~*My Story*~

I'm not sure what prompted me to post this but it feels right to give my followers and those who "know me" some insight as to why of all things, I chose to start a "beauty/book/recipe/ blog".

I've always been inspired by the likes of Steve Soseebee who started a non profit organization to save the lives of children or Susan Abuelhawa who wrote books on the struggles faced by Palestinians to help the world understand "our story".

This is not a political, or religious blog.  My intention is not to save children or the world.  I'm not a historian, a religious scholar, or an articulate writer.  I'm a goof ball with plenty of flaws and lots of typos.  My mission for this blog is simple.  For people, especially women to find beauty and strength in things that are other wise brushed off as vain or unimportant.  To be reminded that those who are selfless and often times the ones who are the most deserving of self love.

Some background on moi:

I was born and raised in Jerusalem.  Some call it Palestine, Some call it Israel, for me..its just home.  For those who are not familiar, its a war torn country whose history and struggles are pre-historic!  War started before my time and unfortunately will most likely continue long after I'm gone.

My childhood did not have much glitter, sparkles or rainbows. The scents that lingered in my nose growing up where of dust and tear gas.  I loved it none the less and wouldn't have traded my experiences for anything because it has shaped me into the woman I am today.

In my recent adult years, I've gone through some bumps.  Some of which have shattered me to pieces that I was sure would never be repaired.  There were many days when I woke up very disappointed to be alive.  I wanted to run from my reality, my past and would only hope that there was no future.

I'm not "crazy" per say :p , but I have been given a bajillion diagnosis-es (im not sure if thats the right word) from depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress, to epilepsy and some other random things.  Contrary to what doctors said, I'm blessed to be healthy and "disease" free.  I believe in broken heart disease.  I believe sometimes life breaks you down and eventually you cant bear another day, so your body just quits.  Your will and the light in your soul just fade.

With the help of God, my family, and whatever little strength remained hidden in my subconsciousness I managed to take a step back and start to really look at myself, my life and what I am doing here.  This blog is a child conceived by all the ugliness I've seen in the world and its only mission is to remind me and anyone who cares to read it that you can find beauty in anything.

Is it wrong to say that scented candles, lip gloss and blush make my world more beautiful? Is it wrong to admit that war, cruelty, injustice, huger and disease have proceeded our times and will continue long after we are gone? is it ok to fight and do what we can to help..but in our journey, be reminded that sometimes the person who needs your help the most is YOU!

Thats what I needed to realize.  I am not undermining the millions of selfless people in the world who are all about more "respectable causes" like animal rights, human rights, child rights, etc.  But this is my story and my mission is to make all those selfless people, and the 90% of the rest of us feel good about ourselves and be reminded that WE are worthy of the love and pampering that we often give to others, whether its a loved one, a child, or a stranger we will never meet.

With that, I will close the chapter of darkness and open a new one filled with beautiful things that we all deserve to enjoy :)

My mom once told me she wanted so badly for me to fall in love, like REALLY in love, be happy, committed and excited.  To fight for that love and be loyal to it.  She was picturing a handsome man.. I found my love, its this.  To spread love & beauty, through words, pictures & products that make me happy :)
